Refrigerant line sizing is critical in split AC and VRF systems. If suction line gas velocity falls below 900 FPM, lubricating oil gets trapped in the evaporator, starving the compressor sump and causing mechanical seizure. If liquid line velocity is too high, liquid pressure drops and vapor flash gas forms before reaching the expansion valve.
